The Neurominority Activists Association dates back to 2021, when neurominority activism was started by founding member Aida A. In 2023, Aida A and Paula Hautaniemi founded the Young Activists -a youth division under the umbrella of Greater Helsinki Area Autism Association PAUT. This youth division supported the creation of other regional Young Activists groups, for example in Turku region (Aisti ry) and Northern Finland (Pohjois-Suomen Autsimikirjo ry).

In December 2024, the Young Activists decided to expand their activities by leaving Autism Association PAUT and founded the independent Neurominority Activists Association. This association is now home to the Young Activists youth division. The association's board is primarily made up of neurominority members, which ensures that the activities are driven by the community's own goals and objectives. This reflects the principle of disability activism: nothing about us without us!
